FASTag system implemented by Government of India has shown positive outcome in the use of RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) system for Electronic Toll Collection systems. The System helps in achieving multiple benefits set across different parameters defined by the Government of India & few of them are as below:

Reduced Congestion: RFID systems eliminate manual toll collection, resulting in reduced traffic congestion, especially during peak hours. This leads to smoother traffic flow and reduced fuel consumption.

Convenience: RFID tags can be linked to a prepaid account making it convenient for drivers & owners. There is no need to carry cash or interact with toll booth operators.

Accuracy: RFID systems are highly accurate in capturing toll charges. They reduce the chances of errors in toll collection, which can occur with manual systems due to human error or miscommunication.

Lower Operational Costs: While implementing an RFID system requires an initial investment, it can lead to long-term cost savings. There is reduced labour cost since fewer toll booth operators are needed, and the maintenance costs are typically lower than traditional toll booths.

Fuel Saving:FASTag system has helped save thousand of crores of fuel expenses which were wasted during traffic congestions at toll booths.
